The U.S. Ambassador to Italy Bids Milan Farewell “I LEAVE YOU WITH A NEW U.S. CONSULAR AGENCY” |
MILAN, April 11, 2005 – The U.S. Ambassador to Italy Mel Sembler will be in Milan on April 11 for a farewell visit at the end of his term in Italy. Ambassador Sembler will call on local authorities and hold a press conference to bid the media farewell. During this meeting Ambassador Sembler will announce the future opening of a new U.S. Consular Agency in Venice. It will be the fourth U.S. Consular Agency in Italy and the second in the North East area after Trieste, where Dr. Paolo Bearz has been a proactive presence during the years. Appointed to Rome right after the tragic events of 9/11, Ambassador Sembler always found trust and friendship during his term and had the honor to serve in a time when U.S. – Italy relations have been excellent. Ambassador Sembler played a leadership role in raising funds for the Bush for President campaign. He was Finance Co-Chairman of The American Bicentennial Presidential Inaugural, raising the dollars needed for the nation's 41st inauguration of the President of the United States. “I conclude my term in a time when U.S. – Italy relations are strong,” said Ambassador Sembler. “Together we did much.” Ambassador Sembler had the honor to serve during the time of Pope John Paul II, whose passing "leaves not only Catholics, but also the world, bereft of our moral shepherd.” The press conference will take place at the American Consulate in Milan, via Principe Amedeo 2/10, from 16:50 to 17:15. |
