The Public Affairs Section is responsible for all aspects of press and cultural relations for the U.S. Consulate in Milan.
The Section works to strengthen and develop U.S.-Italian relations by enunciating and explaining U.S. policies, while presenting American society in all its complexity so that our interlocutors can gain a better comprehension of the United States.
To support these goals, the Public Affairs Section develops and manages an array of public events including conferences, seminars, round-tables and cultural exchange programs between various segments of Italian and American society on issues of bilateral interest.
The Public Affairs Section administers United States government cultural and educational activities in Italy. We serve as a resource to Italian professors of American Studies, providing them with materials, access to U.S. citizen speakers, and, in cooperation with the Fulbright Commission, sending them to the U.S. for seminars.
We also work with the press and media to:
-
Hold press conferences, briefings and interviews.
- Organize discussions between American specialists with their Italian counterparts.
- Provide texts, transcripts and explanatory articles that describe and explain United States policies.
The Public Affairs Section also operates an Information Resource Center (IRC) that provides research and reference documentation on virtually all aspects of United States policy, foreign relations, Italian-U.S. relations, domestic American politics, the economy, environment and trade.
