U
nited States speaker on Muslim integration, Emira Habiby Browne, gave a presentation on multiculturalism which was co-sponsored by Dr. Giancarla Boreatti of Milan's Office of Immigration and Professor of Islamic Studies Paolo Branca of the Cariplo Foundation and Research Center on Multi-ethnicity (ISMU).
Ms. Browne's presentation at the Catholic University of Milan, A Project of Islamic Integration on the Urban Territory: The Case of New York City, outlined some of the differences between the U.S. model of integration and the Italian focus on assimilation. Ms. Browne described some of the psychological problems commonly experienced by Arab immigrants upon their arrival to the U.S., leading to a discussion of how services and social assistance to the Italian Arab community might be further developed.
Prior to the conference, Ms. Browne attended a lunch with public administration officials from the Provincia and Comune di Milano. She also gave an interview to Giornale di Brescia journalist Anna Della Moretta.
