Remarks by Consul General Deborah E. Graze
July 4th Independence Day Celebrations

Milan and Turin, July 5-6, 2006

O n behalf of all of us from the U.S. Consulate General in Milan, thank you for joining us to celebrate the 230th Birthday of the United States. We commemorate the anniversary of July 4, 1776, when our founding fathers formally declared the independence of the 13 colonies, thereby creating our new country, the United States of America. When we celebrate this anniversary, we celebrate the values of liberty and equality that make our country strong.

We share these values with our close friend and ally, Italy.

As we pay tribute to the courage and dedication of my nation’s founders, we honor the service and sacrifice of all those who continue to serve in the cause of freedom and the dream of liberty.

Happy Birthday, America.
