In its 120-year history, the Biennale has advanced art discourse by presenting such notables as Winslow Homer, Ed Ruscha, Fred Wilson, Bill Viola, Louise Bourgeois and Jasper Jones, among other renowned international artists such as Gustav Klimt and Pablo Picasso. Recent editions have drawn several hundred thousand people to the Venice exhibit spaces overlooking the lagoon. The 52nd Edition is open to the public for a five month period, from June 10th until November the 21st. Each edition is unique and reflects the choices of the curator of the overall exhibition. This year the job has fallen to American curator and critic Robert Storr, currently Dean of the Yale School of Art and former Museum of Modern Art in New York painting and sculpture curator. He is among only a handful of non-Italians to be given this honor. An International Herald Tribune article describing Felix Torres Gonalez’ work at the Biennale is also available at www.iht.com.
